Selecting the best method of construction and demolition at sites where the use of fire is prohibited.

Selecting the best method of construction and demolition at sites where the use of fire is prohibited.

Background

A vehicle paint shop was scheduled to be renovated, but the site was full of thinner and other highly volatile chemicals and could not be dismantled using fire.

Issue

Unlike a normal demolition, this one had to be conducted without fire.

Since there was a high possibility of chemicals such as thinner getting ignited during normal steel fusion work, non-flammable demolition methods were adopted.

Key Points of the Issue

Selection of construction methods for demolition at sites where fire is not allowed

Solution

Key Points of Resolution

・To minimize sparking, we use double-insulated power tools with minimal sparking, such as saber saws.

・Heavy equipment demolition using steel frame cutter

Flexibility to adapt to the situation with safety in mind

Fire protection was applied around highly flammable materials in advance, and a supervisor was placed when working in the vicinity of such materials.

The demolition was carried out using a saber saw and bolt removal. Areas that were difficult to work on by hand were joined using heavy equipment with steel cutters, allowing construction to be done without the use of fire.
